Issue: "Disk is full. TV can't play because the hard drive disk you chose in settings is full" error in Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Cause:

This issue is due to the incorrect settings of Media Center storage.

Resolution:

Follow these steps:

1. Press the Windows Media Center Start button on the Media Center remote control.
2. Click MY TV.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click Recorder.
5. Click Storage.
6. Review the drive to record on and review the disk allocation.
7. In the left pane, click OK.

You will find the following option which can be changed by clicking the (+) and (-) keys.

1. Record on drive - If you have more than one drive, you can select which drive the recorded program should be stored on.
2. Disk allocation - You can specify a maximum percentage of disk space, which the Scheduler checks before starting a recording.
3. Recording quality - Select among Fair, Good, Better, and Best. Media Center's recording rates for each of the quality settings are listed in the following table.
4. You can also try changing the Quality, because the quality of the video is directly proportional to the drive space:

Quality Mbps GB per Hour
Fair 2.375 1.07

Good 4.375 1.97

Better 5.375 2.42

Best 6.375 2.87

5. Maximum recording time - Displays the total number of hours of recording that can be accommodated based on the disk allocation and quality settings you specified.
6. Unused recording time - Displays the amount of time of recording that can be accommodated based on the allotted free disk space.

Also, ensure that:
- You have the largest drive selected to store recorded TV.
- Allocated the preferable percentage of the drive for recorded TV in the default storage settings.
